Jonas Savimbi

Jonas Savimbi was born on August 3, 1934 in Munhango, BiƩ Province, Angola. He became an Angolan politician and the leader in long civil war of Angola. Savimbi was very clever he could fluently speak 4 European and 3 African languages. He was part of UNITA that fought against the other group called MPLA. Angola became independent in 1975 and the war started after that, it went on for about 30 years. He was trained in China and was a socialist. Savimbi was killed in a fight in 2002. Six weeks later the fighting stopped and the two groups signed a ceasefire, but the country is still divided in two.
